If you’ve retired, or are starting to plan for retirement, you might be thinking about finances. Living on a fixed income, no matter what the amount, means saving on costs where you can. Luckily, here are a few things those of retirement age can get for almost, or totally free.

Tax Help
You might have a pension or other retirement accounts, and aren’t sure what that means for taxes. You don’t have to worry, because the federal government has a free program called Tax Counseling for the Elderly. Avoid the stress and worries with doing your own taxes and take advantage of this specialized program. They will answer all of your question on any retirement related issues.

Retail Discounts
Some stores offer what they call “senior” discounts, but they’re good for those as young as 50. Check out your favorite retailer to see what kind of deals they offer. Go on to their websites or ask someone in store if anything is available. Some will give coupons, or discount you at the register. Typically all you have to do to get the discount is show proof of age.

School
With all of the time you’ll probably have in retirement, you may want to pursue a degree, or even learn something new. There are a lot of colleges who offer classes at a big discount, or even free. You could get another education without the worry of tuition costs. If you don’t need the degree, you can audit different classes for free. If this is something you’re interested, find your closest school, or check for online classes.
