What to Buy and What to Skip in January

The New Year will have some bargains, but also some things you should stay away from if you want to save. Here is a list of what to buy or skip in January.

Buy: Fitness Equipment

Instead of purchasing a gym membership you might not even use, give yourself some accountability and purchase some home equipment. There will be deals in store and online where you can save a lot of money on quality weights, treadmills, and exercise bikes. You can have the equipment delivered and save yourself the hassle of taking it home yourself.

Skip: Cameras

The holidays are over and so are the deals on cameras. Smartphones have great cameras, however, if you enjoy photography and want a new camera for a project its best to wait. Retailers will have better deals in the coming months, so if you want to save money for your hobby or content creation, have some patience.

Buy: Linens

The white sales will be happening in January. Retail stores will have major savings on bed and bath linens as they try and make room for new inventory. Historically, discounts have been anywhere from 50%-70% depending on the store. Make sure to shop around and get the best deal.

Skip: Smartwatch

You’ll have to wait for summer to get the best deals on smartwatches. There might be some discounts, but not enough for you to purchase right now. Throughout the entire year, you will find the best prices during Amazon’s Prime Day or Black Friday, so you’re about two months too late.

When you are shopping, you can rely on your SeaComm Visa® Platinum, which enables you to earn points and cash back with every dollar spent! You can redeem your points for cashback, or use them to purchase quality merchandise at ScoreCardRewards.com.

For added convenience, ScoreCard® Rewards now offers Premium Payback, which allows you to redeem your points right at the point of sale, virtually anywhere. Just make a qualifying purchase at a participating retailer and you will promptly receive a text message or email asking if you want to redeem your points to cover your purchase. If you choose to accept the offer, you will receive a statement credit to your account for the transaction amount. Click here to get started!
