There are a few things you should be doing to protect your home from potential seasonal damage. Save yourself time and money by taking care of these jobs now.
Repair Roof Damage
Whether you have shingles or a metal roof, make sure it’s in good condition. Any damage needs to be fixed. Water that gets past your roof and into your home can cause a lot of damage. If you see something that doesn’t look right, and you’re not confident enough to fix it yourself, call a professional. It’s better to pay a little bit now in order to prevent a lot of damage to your home, and wallet, later.
Test Your Detectors
You should be testing your smoke, and carbon monoxide detectors every six months. Replace the batteries if necessary and make sure they work. These devices can save your life in an emergency. Check your detectors every fall and spring.
Switch Your Ceiling Fan Direction
When it’s warm out you want a nice cool breeze from your ceiling fans. However, you want your home to feel warmer in the fall and winter. When you switch the direction of your ceiling fan, the cooler air is pulled up and the warmer air is forced down. During the summer your fans should run counter clockwise, and in winter, clockwise. This will make the room feel warmer, and could save you money on your heating bill.
