Now that tax season is over and everyone is spring cleaning, you may be shredding some papers that are no longer relevant. Instead of throwing them away, put the shreds of paper to good use. Here are four ways to use shredded paper.
Gift Baskets
Shredded paper is the perfect material for a decorative gift basket. It creates a soft foundation to lay even the most fragile gifts, like glass wear, or bottles of wine. You can even arrange the paper in the basket to give it a fancy look. Purchasing paper stuffing for gift bags or baskets can be expensive, so using the paper you were already going to shred saves you time and money.
Pet Cages
If you’re out of bedding for your hamster or rabbit, shredded paper is a great alternative. Its soft enough where it won’t harm your pet, and it’s clean as well. When you purchase more bedding from a store, just place it on top of the shredded paper already in there. You can extend the life of the bedding you buy by mixing using shredded paper with it.
Fire Starter
One of the best parts of camping is enjoying food over an open fire. Whether you’re in your backyard, or out in the wilderness, cooking hot dogs, or marshmallows for s’mores is part of the experience. Shredded paper can help out when you’re building your fire. After you stack your wood, stuff your shredded paper in spots to help get the fire going. Spread it around and then light each area to make sure it burns evenly.
Packing Material
Use shredded paper to protect items you mail, or anything you pack before moving. Styrofoam peanuts are messy and break apart. If you’ve ever opened a package and the peanuts get loose, they go everywhere. Ball up shredded paper and pack what you need. You can even stuff some sandwich bags with the paper to create cushions to avoid any mess.
