Some people would say that the sides are more important than the turkey on Thanksgiving. Here are a few side dishes that are delicious and easy to prepare.

Cheesy Mashed Potatoes
Potatoes are a common side dish for Thanksgiving, so why not make them a little more exciting? Instead of just adding butter and cream, get your favorite cheese and add that as well. Cheddar is a popular choice, and it will really create a nice flavor. Whole grain mustard and sour cream mixed in will give the rich and creamy potatoes a little tang.

Green Bean Salad with Crispy Bread Crumbs
If you want to add some color to your Thanksgiving table, this is the perfect side to do it. Boil fresh green beans for about four to five minutes. You still want them to have a bit of a crunch. Take them out of the water so they can cool and dry. As they are drying heat a pan with some oil or butter, and add breadcrumbs, salt, and some herbs. Cook the breadcrumbs until golden brown. Toss the breadcrumbs with the green beans and add your favorite dressing. Very little work for a really pretty dish.

Maple Roasted Vegetables
Adding a sweeter side dish will give you and your guests a much needed change of flavor. If you live in an area with access to fresh vegetables and maple syrup, this side dish is for you. Combine some maple syrup, olive oil, salt, pepper, and any other spices you would like. Toss your vegetables with your dressing and place on a baking sheet. Bake your vegetables until caramelized. Enjoy with turkey, ham, or whatever you decide to serve as your main dish on Thanksgiving.
