What to Buy and What to Skip in August

Here is a list of things you should buy, and skip, in the month of August.

Buy: Back-To-School Supplies

It’s hard to believe, but August means the school year is right around the corner. Big chains and office supply stores will have big back-to-school discounts this month. Make sure to keep up with your favorite store’s social media, and check for flyers and coupons. You should also check out the online deals on notebooks, paper, and writing implements.

Skip: Major Appliances and Furniture

July Fourth sales are over and Labor Day sales haven’t started yet. If you can hold off a little longer you will see big discounts and deals. Washer/dryer combinations, refrigerators, and furniture sets will be at a much lower price at the beginning of September. For now, make a list of things you want, and when the time comes, buy. Waiting will save you a lot of money.

Buy: Yard Equipment

Summer ends in September, which means retailers will have deals on gardening and landscaping equipment in August. Most of the big jobs have been done, but it’s always good to prepare for next year. If you’re looking for a lawnmower, weed whacker, or hedge clippers, now is a great time to buy. You’ll see some great deals on otherwise expensive equipment.

Skip: Kitchen Gadgets

August is not the best month to buy small kitchen appliances. Coffee makers and blenders will go on sale Labor Day, and definitely Black Friday. Waiting a couple months for the best deals will save you money.
