Four Ways to Give Back to Your Community

Thursday, February 17 is National Random Acts of Kindness Day! In honor of this special day, here are four creative ways you can give back to your community.

Volunteer at a museum. You don’t need a background in art history to help out at your local museum. Many museums rely on the enthusiasm of volunteers to enhance the experience for their visitors!

Serve your local food pantry. You can have a big impact by giving just a few hours of your time to your local food pantry. It won’t cost you anything, but the feeling of helping your neighbors in need is priceless. You could also donate non-perishable foods to your local food bank, including soups, whole-grain cereals, canned vegetables, and more.

Donate books to your local library. Donating books is a great way to give back to the children and families in your community. Old books that you are still holding onto can help other children learn to read! Donating also helps maintain the budget of your local library that may otherwise have to purchase new books.

Volunteer at an animal shelter. Consider helping out your local animal shelter, as they are always looking for volunteers to keep lively animals entertained, fed, and groomed. You may think that playing with animals cannot be considered volunteering, but helping them become more sociable and friendly to humans can increase their chances for adoption.

At SeaComm, we’re committed to the credit union philosophy, “People Helping People.” We are focused on making our communities a better place to live, and we believe there’s no better way to do that than by giving back. Click here to learn about our most recent contributions and acts of kindness!
