6 Clever Uses for Baking Soda Around the House

Baking soda is an inexpensive household solution you can use in a variety of ways! Here are six clever uses for baking soda around your home.

Fight ice: Using baking soda on slippery steps or icy walkways gives traction, but is gentler on surfaces than the typical de-icer.

Remove stains: Baking soda is the perfect agent to take stains out of many household items, such as Tupperware and coffee mugs.

Cleaning jewelry: If you have silver jewelry, you can soak it in a mixture of baking soda and hot water in an aluminum-foil-lined bowl. This process will allow the tarnish to transfer from the silver to the water!

Freshening up shoes: Sprinkle baking soda directly into your shoes, let them sit for a day, and then shake out the baking soda. With sandals, simply seal them in a bag filled with the powder!

Sunburn relief: Baking soda can treat sunburns because it helps to balance the pH levels in your skin. Simply mix a few tablespoons of the powder in warm water to form a paste, and gently apply to the affected area.

Mattress freshener: When stripping the beds down for laundry, freshen up the mattress by sprinkling a thin layer directly on top of the mattress. Let it set for a few hours and then vacuum the powder up.
