Preparing Your Vehicle for Spring

After a season of cold temperatures and harsh weather, your vehicle could use some extra care. Continue reading for your spring car maintenance checklist!

Take your car for a tire check. If you have winter tires installed, you will need to have those replaced with all-season tires once the average daily temperature rises above 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Ask your mechanic to check the tire pressure and inspect for any cuts, scrapes, or cracks before you hit the road.

Replace your wiper blades. The accumulation of snow throughout the winter months may have caused damage to your wiper blades – so be sure to invest in a sturdy pair that you can install yourself!

Have the battery checked. Because your vehicle works extra hard during winter, it is easier for the battery to drain. If you suspect your battery’s life is low, have your mechanic check the installation date, and replace the battery if needed.

Replenish the fluids. When was the last time you had your engine’s oil checked? Among your car’s fluids, motor oil is one of the most vital as it keeps your engine clean and running. You should also replenish your car’s wiper fluid, as it will keep your front window clean and increase visibility, especially in the rain.

Check the air conditioner. Now that the coldest months of the year are behind us, it’s important to ensure your air conditioner is in good shape. First, press the AC button and notice what happens. Take note of any unusual noises or smells, and make sure the system responds adequately when you increase or reduce cool airflow. If you do notice problems, contact your mechanic to have it fixed.
