Try the No-Spend Challenge

Does your money burn a hole in your pocket? Do you often find yourself spending more than you had anticipated? If this sounds like you, try the no-spend challenge! Continue reading to get started.

What is the no-spend challenge?

This challenge enables you to designate one day a week where you won’t spend a penny. No picking up a latte on the way to work. No buying lunch or eating out for dinner. No quick stop at the grocery or random online purchases for things you don’t need.

Wouldn’t that be difficult?

It’s not as hard as you think; just put your mind to it. Brown-bagging your lunch is a good habit to learn, and you can enjoy the coffee your work provides instead of picking one up at the local drive-thru. Use groceries that are already in your fridge and pantry, and avoid browsing retail sites that make it too easy to waste money.

What are some things to do that don’t require spending money?

There’s a variety of activities you can enjoy without opening your wallet! This includes going for a long walk, having a Zoom party with family and friends, watching Netflix with popcorn, taking a hike at your local state park, and much more.

How do I get started?

Select a day of the week that works best for you. For example, if you choose Friday, this does not mean you can spend extra money on Thursday and Saturday. This simply means that on Friday, all your spending must come to a halt.

What should I do with the money I’ve saved?

After you’ve tried the no-spend challenge for a few weeks, you’ll likely have some extra money laying around. Do yourself a favor and stash it away in your savings account!
