Keep your tires in good shape. Maintaining your tires is important because they are the only parts of your car that touch the ground. This type of damage can cause blowouts when vehicles are traveling on hot pavement at high speeds.
Check the fluid levels. This includes oil, brake, automatic transmission or clutch, power steering, and windshield washer. Make sure each reservoir is full; if you see any signs of fluid leakage, you should take your vehicle in to be serviced. It is also important to make sure the vehicle’s cooling system is ready for the warmer temperatures. Coolant, also referred to as antifreeze, contains anti-corrosion chemicals that prevent rust from building up inside the engine. This will help a vehicle stand the test of hot summer driving!
Pack an emergency roadside kit. Even a well-maintained vehicle can break down, so it is smart to put together an emergency roadside kit to have while on the road. This could include a portable cell phone charger, first aid kit, flashlight, flares, jumper cables, water, and a map.
