Use inexpensive cuts of meat. Backyard grilling does not have to mean breaking the bank on expensive cuts of meat like tenderloin or filet mignon. Look for lesser-known cuts of beef, or use chicken thighs. With a little seasoning and a great sauce, no one will know you are working on a budget!

hot dogs

Make gourmet hot dogs. A package of hot dogs or sausages certainly won’t empty your wallet, but that doesn’t mean you have to serve them up plain. Make ballpark-style hot dogs by dressing them up with spicy mayo and all the toppings.

Go meatless. Protein is definitely the most expensive part of your barbecue, so put together a vegetarian grill instead. You can grill cauliflower, sweet potato, or even eggplant steaks. Serve them alongside grilled tomatoes, corn on the cob, zucchini, and mushrooms. Click here for a list of 31 grilled vegetable recipes!
