Five Energy Saving Tips for Spring & Summer

energy efficient

Most people anticipate higher energy costs in the warmer months. The nice weather comes with a price, but with a little preparation, you can manage your energy use and cut down on your bill. We’ve come up with five ways for you to save on energy costs…continue reading to learn more!

lighting

Choose energy saving lighting. You have many choices in energy-efficient lighting! The most popular light bulbs are halogen incandescent, fluorescent, and LEDs. Although they can initially cost more than the traditional incandescent bulbs, during their lifetime they save you money because they use less energy.

windows

Check your windows. There are many ways cool air can escape out of a house, and allow the warm air to take over. Make sure to check the interior and exterior of your home for cracks and gaps, specifically the windows. Fill small leaks with caulk.

power strip

Use a smart power strip. A smart power strip protects both your devices and your wallet! This type of power strip can detect when a device is in standby mode, so it can cut off power and save energy. This will drastically reduce your overall energy usage, and decrease your utility bill.

water heater

Reduce your water heating temperature. Hot water is one of the biggest energy users. If you set your water heater temperature too high, you can waste nearly $500 annually! The U.S Department of Energy recommends keeping your water heater’s thermostat set at 120 degrees.

window

Open your windows on a cool day. Instead of relying on your air conditioner 24/7, open your windows and let the breeze cool down your home! Remember to close your windows and curtains once the warm air returns.

savings

Once you have implemented these small but effective changes, you will likely see a decrease in your energy bills. Deposit your energy savings into your SeaComm savings account! Choose from a variety of savings options to help your money work for you.
