Don’t be afraid to think inside the can. While fresh sounds better…it’s much more expensive. When it comes to dishes like pumpkin pie, yams, or cranberry sauce – who would really be able to tell whether it was fresh, or came from a can?

Don’t prepare too much food. One of the biggest mistakes you can make on Thanksgiving is preparing too much food. Not only will you drain your wallet with the additional food costs…but there’s a chance that a lot of the food will go to waste. Stick to the staple dishes; turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and vegetables.

Try a potluck style dinner. There’s nothing wrong with asking your guests to do their part! Let them know what you will prepare, and ask them to bring the rest. Keep a list of who is bringing what, so you can ensure that each guest is bringing something different.
