Winter in the North Country can be a bit discouraging. But there are plenty of fun things to do, and a variety of ways to entertain yourself! We’ve found four fun activities that won’t empty your wallet or derail your budget.
Go Cross-Country Skiing or Snowshoeing at the Nicandri Nature Center. The center, located in Massena, offers up a variety of complimentary outdoor winter activities! Spend the afternoon with family and friends navigating the trails and enjoying the beautiful North Country landscape.
Have fun at the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival. This year the annual winter carnival will be held February 1-10. Enjoy a variety of inexpensive (and free) activities like skating races, hockey games, musicals, dinner theater and more! Click here for the full schedule of events.
Visit your local museum or exhibit. We are lucky to live in a rural region that is still rich in the arts, culture and history. Facilities like the Frederic Remington Art Museum, St. Lawrence Power & Equipment Museum, the Clinton County Historical Museum and more provide visitors with an insightful experience!
Plan an outdoor, weekend getaway. There are some wonderful winter hiking spots right in our own backyard! Visit Robert Moses State Park in Massena, Higley Flow State Park in Colton, or even Cumberland Bay State Park in Plattsburgh, and enjoy an afternoon walking through the picturesque nature trails.
