Spring is the prime time for auto maintenance. With winter winding down and summer headed this way, prepare your car for warmer weather with these 5 simple car care tips…
Give your vehicle a wash and wax. A good wash and wax is one of the most important things you can do for your vehicle after a harsh North Country winter. Because winter driving can cause a significant amount of wear and tear from road grime and salt build up on your car, you’ll want to make sure it’s been thoroughly cleaned as we head into warmer weather.
Clean the inside, as well. There’s a good chance that you’ve let junk accumulate inside your car throughout the winter. That’s why spring is the best time to clean your car’s interior – so set aside an hour or two and remove trash and other items that have built up over the winter. Pull out the vacuum and dusting wipes, and your car will be spring-ready!
Check your tire pressure. As the temperature of the air gets colder during the winter, the tire pressure decreases…but as the temperature gets warmer again in the spring, tire pressures can increase. In order to make sure that the pressure in your tires are back at the levels they should be, check your tire pressure with a pressure gauge, or have a professional take a look at it.
Check under the hood. Unless you’re auto-savvy, have a mechanic take a look at the engine, belts and hoses to ensure that the cold temperatures haven’t worn them out. It’s also important to make sure that your fluids aren’t low, and replenish them as needed.
Check the alignment. Rough winter weather can force wheels out of alignment, which can lead to bigger problems. While some alignment specs are easy to check yourself, it might be best left to the professionals. Have a mechanic make sure that all four wheels are perpendicular to the ground, and parallel to each other.
